WIP Wednesday: BOM Style

I've been about as productive as my soon-to-be-teen son when given a list of chores.  Yep, there's a whole lotta nuthin' going on in the sewing department in my house.

One block is the extent of my sewing accomplishments this week.  I'm trying not to strain myself (wink).

I've never participated in a block of the month (BOM) project before, but for $1, how could I go wrong?  My local quilt shop, Tomorrow's Quilts, is hosting a BOM in four colorways...I chose brights.  You get the fabric for each block and a set of destructions instructions.  The block construction uses Thangles of which I have a beauteous bounty, but of course I didn't have the size needed for this project..thank you, Mr, Murphy.  There's plenty of fabric left over to make a second block and considering my 7 1/2 inch square block came out at 7 1/4 x 7 3/8, I'd say a second block is in my immediate future.

I don't know why I'm a quilter since I strive mightily for perfection and fall short every time!

If I ever make this in a colorway of my own creation, it'll be batiks or really gaudy florals.  Not sure why this is considered a 'bright' colorway, but the other options just didn't blow my skirt up.  The finishing kit (not $1, I might add) has some pretty spectacular colors in it, so there's hope for future blocks.

I'm linking up today to Lee at Freshly Pieced.  Check out what other crafty types are working on and get inspired!

Happy quilting, y'all!

  1. I need sleep because there are so many comments I want to make.

    1. I don't see bright either but I see the potential for bright.

    2. I am very jealous you have a $1/month BOM. Mine is $15 plus the $15 fee to join. I will have a complete queen size quilt top in the end.

    3. What is a Thangle?

    4. Blow my skirt up? Are you doing Marilyn Monroe imitations now?

    5. As the mother of three twenty something males, I have to say, "You ain't seen nothing yet." I refer to 14 as the year of cranial rectitis because they have their heads stuck up their....you get the picture.

    Very nice block.

  2. Okay, here're my responses numbered nice and neat like yours...

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

    2. Mine's only going to be twin-sized and the finishing kit was $75

    3. I posted about Thangles at http://imperfectmom2two.blogspot.com/2011/06/thangled-up-in-jelly-roll.html They're paper strips you use to make various sized HST.

    4. Blow up my skirt means 'excited'. I stole it from the movie True Lies.

    5. Isn't cranial rectitis terminal?

    Thank you!
