Thankful Thursday

God bless the Canadians!  Hell if I know if they invented hockey, but bless my soul, are those players ever hot!  Big, rugged burly men on skates smacking the crap out of one another with stick or fists?  How can you not love that?

And now there's one more reason to celebrate the awesomeness of my northern neighbor...my blogland buddy, Melanie.

Melanie, how did you know my yesterday was crap?  The package arrived today and I held off on opening it for THREE SOLID HOURS.  How's that for restraint?!  Alrighty then!

SQUEAL!!
I feel rather sheepish since all I sent her was one measly pincushion and look what I got in return...

The lighting doesn't do it justice.  Moose pencils for me and the Co-Defendants; button push pins; bath salts with a message on the back "For days filled with crooked seams, lost points, or when the school calls!"; and two pincushions...one my moi and one for The Diva.  I love the cathedral window pincushion and have got to try to make one myself.  The Diva snatched up Thing One and Thing Two so fast, it was a blur.  Perhaps she recognized kindred spirits.  I am truly spoiled...and I like it!

Thank you, Melanie, so much!

I'm so blessed!

Thankful Thursday: Co-Defendant Style

I rushed through the front door this afternoon to hear the teacher's voice leaving a message on our answering machine.  Oh, the unbridled joy!  I quickly snatched up the phone, sat down and said with resignation 'I'm here...what's going on'.  Yes, I have a PhD in Scholastic Interpersonal Relationships.  Does this make me a crappy mother that I expect the worst, or what?

The voice on the other end cheerfully (dare I say she chirped) explained that it was good news...didn't all parents like to get good news? she asked.  Well, heck yes, but it's just never been in regard to one of my kids.

She used words like conscientious, good listener, role model, mature.  You know, words that have heretofore never applied to my son.  I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the 'however...' but it never came.  I replayed what was on the answering machine to him when he got home.  It rated a smirk and a grunt.  (Insert twirled finger and 'big whoo' uttered in a thoroughly bored tone here)

Apparently, he's growing up (fist pump and sniffle) and she just wanted to let me know how well he was doing.

HOOOOOOOOO-RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Christmas in January!

My Louisiana neighbor and quilting pal, Betty P, recently let me know she had some leftover Christmas fabric in need of a home...was I interested?

Was I interested?  Is a hog's butt ham?  Heck yeah!  So imagine my delight at finding this in my mailbox this afternoon.  I've always thought it was rather amazing that something good arrives in the mail when you need it most and today was no exception.

My daughter squealed Clothes!! while my son, noting that the package was squishy, pronounced straight-faced It's a squid.  Frankly, I don't get excited over either one.  Fabric on the other hand, now that's another matter altogether.

I restrained myself and didn't rip the package apart trying to get it open...mainly because I opened it in my front yard (for the photo op, of course) and it wouldn't look good for the neighbors to find out what a nut job I am.  I'll leave it to my children to warn the world.

Is this an awesome group of fabric or what?

There was also this bag of precut shapes...not sure what Miss Betty was up to with these but there's a significant amount of curved pieces in there.  They, too, have found a happy home...or at least a quilter wacky enough to give 'em a go!  Now, what to do with them?  Hmmm...

Yay me and many thanks to Miss Betty for her generosity!  And lest anyone asks What about your fabric diet? may I just say gifts and freebies don't count!  Nyahnyahnyah!!!

Thanks, Betty...you really brightened my day.

Thankful Thursday

Well, Paige and I both survived the dentist ordeal today.  As we pulled into the parking lot she said I don't think I can do this.  As an official Bad Mommy I replied Oh, yes you can and added my meanest Mom Face for good measure.  She passed with flying colors, the Tooth Fairy will have a fabulous silver covered tooth to pick up tonight and Mommy didn't have to take a Xanax.  It's a win for all of us!

I have to give a huge THANK YOU to her dentist, Dr. Trotter.  You see, when I went to pay the bill, the office lady informed me that it was the Dr's birthday and as such she was giving back to her patients...by providing dental care for the day free of charge!!  I stood there stunned and started bawling.  When I finally got myself together, the entire front office was bawling right along with me.  I managed to collect my offspring and hustle us home where we promptly fell asleep.

I didn't get much else done what with running between fetching blankets and pillows and trying to fill the bottomless pit that is my daughter's stomach (nothing to eat or drink since midnight Wednesday night...I guess she was making up for lost time!)  I did manage to press the rest of the curved blocks I pieced and cleaned up the sewing area a bit.  And I can now narrate the entire movie Cinderella from start to finish.  You know, I never liked that chick.

Thanks to those ladies who left encouraging words for us today...we really needed them!
