I Have Found My Price

I always knew I could be bought and for years thought it would be in copious quantities of quality quilting fabric.  Say that last part real fast five times.  Apparently, I was wrong.

I can be bought for homemade toffee.

Julianne, my friend, you are fifty shades of utter awesomeness!

I whined 'Where's mine?!' when she posted about making toffee for a work bake sale.  I was just kidding, but she twisted my arm and put me in a head lock and whammo...there was toffee in the mailbox today, y'all!  I'm sure passing motorists thought I was insane because I shook, shimmied and whooped my way across the driveway.  So undignified...and excited!!

I'd show you a picture of me sampling it, but it's too racy for Blogger.  The Diva, the little turd, loves it..naturally so I have to share it.  Captain Studly took a nibble and turned up his nose...what a communist.  How can you not love chocolate and nuts?!  Oh, wait...he's male.  All my fat cells yelled 'YIPPEEE!' and are still shimmying like mad.  Girls, this stuff is da bomb!

And to 'pad the toffee' (her exact words) she included these...

Aren't they scrumptious?  Such beautiful Fall colors.  I am so happy!  How did she know I'd had the worst weekend on record and needed a pick-me-up this bad?

Thank you, Julianne!  I am blessed to have you as a friend even though we've never met (and considering how my children have been behaving, that's probably a good thing) and I'm glad I can make you laugh when you need it.

The Box Is My Friend

I confess: I HATE CHANGE.  There, I said it.  Whenever I hear someone roll out that tired line Think outside the box I have an overwhelming urge to give 'em a good smack and yell Snap out of it!

Maybe it's not change, so much as innovation that I have a problem with.  I like thinking inside the box where there's structure and order.  Outside the box is chaotic and there's gnashing of teeth.  No thanks.  I like following someone else's pattern and yes, I like quilt kits with their tidy all-togetherness so neatly packaged and sometimes tied with a bow.  Sue me.  Is it laziness...lack of creative sensibilities...or just simply expedient?  I don't know and frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

However...(you knew that was coming, didn't you?)

I forced myself the other night to sit down and just sew.  I opened up a scrap box and slapped stuff together willy-nilly just to see what I'd come up with.  Behold...

I came up with two oddly sized crazy blocks and a case of Quilter's Hives.  I'm not a fan of either one.  Maybe if I make several hundred more I'll start to see the appeal of just winging it.  Then again, maybe I should bang my head repeatedly against a hard surface.

Another Day Another Finish

It's a fine March morning here in Central Texas...the sun is shining with enough chill in the air to make Lulu our Boxer frisky.  My husband's trying to roast us in here...he's freezing, I'm sweltering.  Uh-oh...you know I am getting to that age.  I see lots of layered clothing in his future.

I managed to finish this quilt top last night, but fell asleep before I could get it posted.  I call it Play Money because it reminds me of the Stacked Coins pattern with a fun and funky kid-type print that makes me think of Monopoly money.  The print is leftover from a quilt kit I purchased way back..and there's still loads left over for something else.

Which reminds me of my New Year's resolution...you know, the one about no buying of fabric or patterns for 2012.  Yep, that one's endured the test of time....NOT!!  I'm throwing in the fat quarter and amending it to spend less on my hobby in 2012.  The ladies at the quilt shop have been kind enough not to say anything about it to me...thanks, girls!

A big welcome to my new followers...thanks for finding something fun and interesting here!  My son will soon be a teenager and there are plenty of quilting projects left to tackle so I'm sure there'll be plenty of fodder for future posts.  Stay tuned.

Report Cards: Quilting and Otherwise

I had to take a break from that dang airplane quilt that seems to have taken over my sewing corner, quilting time and life in general.  I don't ever want to see another plane after it's done!

Mom and I attended our quilting bee The Happy Stitchers last night.  I haven't been in forever...'Who are you again?' was a question I heard quite frequently and it was nice to catch up with the ladies.  I got this quilt top that's been languishing as a WIP for an eternity finished up...

You may recognize the pinwheels as being from my Thangles stage.  You know, the one where I lost my mind and sewed strip after strip of the little buggers.  I still have two baby quilts to make out of the remainder.  The fabric is Love U by Deb Strain...it's all nature and owls and makes me want to go out and hug a tree.

Yesterday was also Report Card Day (cue the dramatic music and nail-biting suspense).  I am happy to report that they will both live.  Co-Defendant #1 has come a loooong way in the academics department and is doing great.  Take that, you snarky naysayers..he can make farting noises and good grades at the same time!  He had an awesome down-the-court dribble and couple of free-throw shots at last night's basketball game as well.  Co-Def #2, although academically gifted is, in the words of my beloved Nana, developing her personality.  In English, this means she's a ringtailed tooter and believes rules are for others.  I see a future in politics or the law for her.

It's cold outside and I really should be cleaning my house....nah, I'm gonna link up to Can I Get a Whoop Whoop and Finish It Up Friday!

And Then There Were Four

In between all the hustle and bustle that is running a household, working, and yelling at my kids (and if you believe their story, this is what I do all. day. long), I managed to finish up my set of four extremely loud placemats.....yipppeeeeee!

The tops are all the same, but the backs...now that's a different story (hee-hee).

I'm so thrilled to get these done and be able to move on to the next project, which given their attitudes this morning, seems to be refereeing the children.  Have a great Friday!
